Pheasant hunting in the Eastern part of South Dakota should be even better this year than it was last year. There have been a couple of easy winters in a row and a lot of reproduction the last couple of years. It looks as if 2009 pheasant hunting will be better this year than last year.

Driving from DeSmet SD on highway 25 South to interstate 90 I’ve seen more pheasants this year than I did last year and there were a ton of pheasants along there last year. It wasn’t uncommon to see flocks of 20-40 birds at once.

I’ve also seen a lot more between Lake Preston SD and Brooking SD on highway 14 than I’ve ever seen before. Same from Lake Preston to Madison SD on highway 81. There are just a ton of pheasants in the area.

Hunting in the Eastern part of SD is just as good as hunting around the Winner area. There are ample places to hunt and plenty of public land that is open for hunting. The South Dakota pheasant hunting is better than anywhere else in the world.

Quail hunting is one of the top sports for those on the upper crust of society. It’s considered the top hunt for the aristocracy and is practiced by vice presidents (don’t quail hunt with ex VP Cheney tho) and world leaders to this day. It doesn’t take place in the morning, for example, or in the shivering cold. Instead, quail hunting can be done in relative comfort and can actually be quite stylish. For this reason, many people in the upper class of society try quail hunting.

Lot of hunters stay in quail hunting lodges and many of the hunting shows you see on TV are Texas quail hunting shows. Other states, including South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico and California also have great hunting. You can find Quail in most states but not all.
