Antioxidants in fruit can play a large role in fighting free radical damage and repairing damage already sustained. Free radicals are molecules produced by natural processes. They can also be produced by sun exposure, smoking, stress and pollution. Too many free radicals can be harmful because they attack healthy cells and create oxidative damage. Antioxidants have protective properties and bind to dangerous free radicals thus rendering them harmless.
