Parenting Styles

March 7th, 2010 by the writer

There’s the parent who spoils their kid rotten, and on the other end of the spectrum there’s that parent in the grocery store loudly disciplining their kid in the canned food aisle while everyone looks away awkwardly and pretends not to notice, secretly feeling sorry for the kid and looking down on the mother, or conversely feeling sorry for the mother and looking down on the kid as a brat. There’s a whole bunch of parenting styles out there, and they’re not always everyone’s cup of tea. Depending on the person, they will see some parenting styles as appropriate and others not, and their views are strongly influenced by the way they were raised themselves’some pass on the styles they were raised in and others rebel against them.

Easter Pastimes for Children

February 21st, 2010 by the writer

One of the years favorite activities for children is the Easter Egg hunt. It doesn’t matter if there’s prizes involved, although children always love prizes, the main thrill is the searching, checking all the old hiding places and looking for the new ones.

Another fun activity has always been coloring eggs. And of course, with all the newer ways there are to decorate or dye eggs, there’s lots of room to be creative. Certain cultures have rich traditions of decorating eggs with paint, wax or other items. Some even carve the shells! But even basic dyed eggs will bring happiness sitting on the table (or hidden by a tree).

Find more Easter Crafts for Kids and enjoy the holiday with your kids!

Easter Basket making is another fun pastime. Take some different colored cardboard, red, pink, blue, yellow, etc. and cut it into long strips. Then using sticky tape or safety glue, instruct the kids to weave the it together to create a simple Easter basket shape.

Birth Parents

February 15th, 2010 by the writer

A big issue for adopted children is the prospect of meeting their birth parents. Some children want to. It fills a piece of you that was missing, it’s been said. Other children have no desire to. Their parents now are their real parents, the ones that raised them. Of course genetics play a big role in family, because families are usually by definition genetically related. However, if people not genetically related to you fulfilled the role of being your parents and raising you, is it fair to say that they’re not really your parents? It’s true that there’s something about blood that binds people together, and it’s hard to explain. You have some sort of connection to relatives even if they’re distant, just because you share the same genes.

Baby Products Can be Quite Costly

February 5th, 2010 by the writer

Until you and your spouse have had a baby, it’s hard to imagine how expensive baby products can be. There will be times when it seems really outrageous. Baby products will cost a fortune when you combine them all together. A few jars of baby food, or a baby jacket you are searching for might not cost a lot, but spend a few years raising a child and you will see how the expenses will grow. This is the main reason for having a baby shower.

I think that at the beginning, the local community would help out by giving baby products to new mothers and fathers. Now it has become a tradition and people have forgotten where it came from, but I think that originally it was because getting baby gifts was a necessity.

Most of the expenses will go towards buying baby clothes. Of all of the baby products that are out on the market, I think the clothes might be the most expensive. Babies grow so quickly that, even if an individual baby jacket doesn’t cost a lot of money, once you provide for the baby over a couple years you will rack up quite a bill. That is why it makes a lot of sense to plan things out. Buy baby clothing whenever there is a sale. You don’t have to wait for your baby to get to a certain size to buy the clothes. If you see some baby products that look nice, buy them anyway. After all, you will be prepared a year ahead of time with a cheap baby shirt for when he or she gets to that age.

By having an assortment of toys to let your child explore shape, color, texture, and pattern, this can really give the kid a head start on life. I think the baby toys are the most fun baby products to buy. Your family and friends will probably get them for your kids. These seem to be the most popular baby shower gifts. Also, they are some of the most enjoyable ones to share with your newborn baby.

2. Refinish and repurpose.
Buying new furniture for you child’s room makeover can be a very costly amount and may cause you to postpone this great gift to your kid. Often existing kids furniture can be reused in the room by painting or refinishing the surface. Stripping existing furniture has gotten so much easier with all the great new products on the market. If it is too exhausting a job, a little sanding and some new paint can really freshen up an old piece. Also, don’t forget to check out the thrift stores and garage sales nearby. There could be great deals waiting for you!

3. Create a bright new focal point in the room.

Antique toys to play with

February 1st, 2010 by the writer

Many children enjoy a game of Pick Up Sticks. The game dates from the 1700s when it was known as Jackstraws. In common with other antique toys, it’s gone in and out of fashion and is enjoying a surge of interest at the moment. Many parents are delighted to see toys from their own childhood back in the shops, so they can pass them on to the next generation.

Whipping tops are said to have come from the Far East and Native American tribes played with them in the frozen north on the ice. They became very fashionable in Victorian England and the craze was exported back to America, an example of antique toys going in a circle.

Ball and bat games have been played for a long time in one form or another, leading to the eventual modern pastimes of baseball, cricket and rounders.

Cigarettes Effects on Society as a Whole

January 12th, 2010 by the writer

A question often asked about smoking is What are the Cigarettes Effects on Society? Well, if you’re an adult living in a modern western democracy and need to ask that question, then you’ve probably been hiding under a rock for the past 20 years. Educational  resources on the dangers of smoking are literally everywhere. Here’s a brief run-down of the damaging effects YOUR smoking has on the society in which you live: It causes throat, mouth, bladder, and lung cancer to name but the most common. It can block arteries and cause strokes and heart attacks. There are a multitude of harmful diseases and conditions, far too many to mention here. Lesser effects are that smokers reek of stale tobacco. It gets in their clothes, their hair, their breath, and stains teeth and fingers. Regular smokers are unfit and find the lightest of tasks make them breathless. Chesty coughing and early morning spitting of brownish green phlegm is the normal way to kick start the day. And if the above isn’t bad enough for the smoker take heed! YOUR smoking can affect those non-smokers around you in exact the same ways if they are exposed to YOUR smoke long enough. YOUR health and wellbeing is your business, but spreading YOUR misery onto innocent victims, including those you know (family, children, and friends), and those you will never meet. This exposure is not only unnecessary, but avoidable too.
