LCD Swivel Wall Mount

January 1st, 2010 by the writer

Purchasing a LCD swivel wall mount is a great space saving solution. SwivelTVMounts.net is a good resource for finding the right wall bracket and selecting the best position for your TV or computer monitor. By using a swiveling mount you will be able to rotate and tilt the unit, making it better for more users and viewable from different spots around the room.

Since LCD flat panels are usually lighter than the larger Plasma TVs, a mounting arm can be rated to hold less weight, but it should still be able to tilt and swivel to fulfill your needs. Some units sit 3-4 inches out from the wall in order to work correctly while others actually mount in between the studs and give you the opportunity to hide any cables and connections. This is nice, but can be a really big project unless it is done during new construction.

A good thing to do is check the manual for your LCD unit, because some manufacturers recommend a brand of TV mount that fits your panel best. There are also a number of universal mounts that adapt to multiple designs.

For more information about LCD swivel wall mounts visit SwivelTVMounts.net.

My Favorite Hollywood Celebrity Gossip

November 19th, 2009 by the writer

I tell you, as stupid as I think it is to care what any celebrity is doing, I find myself drawn in to a story about some actor or politico. My favorite Hollywood celebrity gossip always centers around when some actor finds a moral compass and abandons the Hollywood mindset. This of course usually involves becoming a Christian and then getting blackballed from any good work due to moral values. That is a rare thing to happen but it is nice to hear when it does, since a soul saved is always good news. Income and fame are fleeting anyway. My second type of Hollywood celebrity gossip would be tax evasion. This just shows how greedy and hypocritical some can be in Hollywood that they get millions of dollars and still can’t stay out of debt.

It’s not surprising that program makers flock here. It’s a city of iconic buildings and there is a tempting choice of locations. Sometimes, actual stores and businesses are used to represent a regular haunt for the show’s characters. There are frequent shots of Tom’s Restaurant at West 112th Street and Broadway in the hit sitcom, Seinfeld. The name is changed to Monk’s Café for the show. Seinfeld ran from 1989 – 1998 and followed the daily trials and tribulations of four main characters in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Roman Empire lives again in modern fictions

February 9th, 2009 by the writer

Two millenniums have now passed since the time when the Roman Empire reached its peak, but its success has been replicated in dozens of television programmes. Many people (mainly foreign) have tried to imitate the glory of Rome through televsion.
Here are some interplanetary sitcoms that in many ways incorporate aspects of the Roman empire.

Star Trek is probably the most famous of all. In the episode named “Bread and Circuses” the Enterprise visits a planet based on the model of ancient Rome, (Rome without television and machine guns). They do not mention why this world has developed a society which is exactly like how ancient Rome was on Earth, but it’s like that and is so incredible.

Doctor Who uses a story with an alien in the Roman empire comic series “The Legion of Iron”, taken from a story by Dave Gibbons. This version of Rome uses mechanical soldiers, but has a dark secret: the flesh-eating demons act secretly behind the scenes of the empire.

Tales Of The Trigan Empire was a series of cartoons made from 1965 to 1982, with a version of the Roman Empire in space. Wikipedia says: This similarity also extends to Trigan City, the capital city built on five hills, similar to the Seven Hills of Rome. The clothing of the Trigan is similar to that of the Roman, the people wear the Toga as a garment and in the case of the soldiers, Roman armour.

The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov has a Galactic Empire that is very clearly modelled on Gibbons’ “decline and fall of the Roman Empire”.

Empire dell’Atomo of AE Van Vogt recounts the story of the distant future of Earth, in 12,000 years AD, when an atomic war has destroyed the Earth. The people retain the capacity to build ships, but lose other basic skills, including simple communication. They build a futuristic Roman Empire.

The novels of Nova Roma by R.M. Meluch take place in the Palatine Empire and are located around the planet known as New Rome. Ruled by Caesar Magnus, the Empire is defended by the Draconis Legion, in addition to this is the USS Merrimack, led by Captain John Farragut and his second in command, the cyborg Augusto.

Even Futurama wanted to show us a Roman world. In the episode “The Problem with Popplers,” on DVD with the commentary of the writers, you will find that they wanted Fry to go back to a planet where there was the Roman Empire, and where all were centaurs. The Emperor of the planet would be named Incitato which was also the name of a horse that Caligula made Senator. Unfortunately, in the final episode there is not even the slightest reference to this story.

Planet Hulk, the biggest story about Hulk in recent years, refers to a landing on the planet Sakar, which is clearly dominated by an empire and Roman civilization. Hulk here is enslaved and forced to participate in gladiatorial games for the entertainment of the Emperor.

These are just some of the stories taken from modern and contemporary fiction that show people still remain fascinated by the great empire that was Rome.
If you want to discover what remains of what was probably the greatest civilization of all time, you can book an appartmento a Roma that will meet your needs. In appartamenti a Roma you will find yourself situated in the centre or even in the immediate periphery you will find a valid solution for housing and may save some money on the price of a hotel.

After more than a year of saving up all my extra cash, I’m finally ready to get rid of my old CRT television and buy one of the latest flat-panel models. Usually I would just go out to a big electronics store, look around until I found something I liked, and then buy it on the spot. However, since this is such a major purchase for me, I’m planning on reading through as many plasma TV buying guides as I can find before I reach for my credit card. A good plasma TV buying guide should be able to give me a lot of valuable information about the purchasing process. For instance, I don’t know which features are absolute must-haves, and which ones I can do without, so I’m worried about paying extra for bells and whistles that I won’t even use.
