Food Additives Are A Necessity
October 31st, 2007 by the writerPreservatives are the most significant food additives found in food. There used to be several natural substances added to food as preservatives prior to modern-day food manufacturing. It really makes me laugh when I read on the side of a packet of salt and vinegar chips the words “no preservativesâ€. In actually fact salt and vinegar are both in essence very efficient food preservatives. One of the oldest techniques to preserving things is adding salt to them; we add salt to fish and meat to preserve it. When sailors were soldiers they would take salted food with them on the long journeys as the salted food would last them for many months.
A few food additives are added to foods to either preserve the products consistency or to give the food texture or a certain feel. For instance peanut butter usually has partially hydrogenated oils in it. This is added as it’s the only way to stop it from separating. Having a small amount in your peanut butter really won’t hurt you however what is not good for you is too many partially hydrogenated oils.
