Those who are affected with bipolar disease know that it is a debilitating illness that affects every waking hour of their day.

Health professionals recognize 3 different mood states that can occur with bipolar depression. The first of these is depression. This is distinguished by a deep sorrowfulness and sadness that refuses to go away. Second, there is what is called the manic. This is the state in which you may get a good feeling that is similar to the high that one experiences when taking drugs. When this state you may become extremely agitated, angry and possibly even violent.

At this time you may become prone to taking unnecessary risks. Oftentimes it begins with hypo mania, which is a lower degree of mania that can make you feel as though you have managed to get something done. However, it can escalate into full blown mania.

Third, and finally, there is also a state in which you may have mixed moods wherein you go back and forth from depression to mania several times in 1 day and as such may affect your daily functioning.
