Investment news in the media is useful in the assessment of the performance of fund managers. Its benefit to the individual investor is however questionable. The problem is that many investors confuse media news with financial advice. They as such select the securities for their portfolios, based solely on information from the media, paying no heed whatsoever to a financial advisor. This practice results in frustration and substantial losses in the future.
